The following publications represent recent work using ALZET® Osmotic Pumps in basic and preclinical research. ALZET pumps offer a reliable and convenient alternative to injections for continuous dosing of unrestrained lab animals. These small, implantable pumps deliver solutions at controlled rates over durations ranging from one day to 6 weeks.
Pancreatic Cancer
Mao et al. Application of chemokine receptor antagonist with stents reduces local inflammation and suppresses cancer growth. Tumor Biology 2015;36(11):8637-8643.
– ALZET pumps were implanted in mice with pancreatic cancer for continuous administration of AMD3100 to inhibit binding of SDF-1 to its receptor (CXCR4).

Parkinson’s Disease

– ALZET pumps (Model 2004) were used for intrastriatal delivery of cerebral dopamine neurotrophic factor (CDNF) for 28 days to evaluate its therapeutic effect in a Parkinson’s disease model in marmoset monkeys.

Alzheimer’s Disease

– ALZET pumps were used for 8-week continuous infusion of rivastigmine to mice. The study evaluated the role of P-glycoprotein in mediating rivastigmine effect on Aβ brain levels and neuroprotection in a mouse model of Alzheimer’s disease.

Cardiac Hypertrophy
Khatua et al. Diallyl disulfide ameliorates isoproterenol induced cardiac hypertrophy activating mitochondrial biogenesis via eNOS-Nrf2-Tfam pathway in rats. Biochemistry and Biophysics Reports 2016;5:77–88.
– ALZET pumps used for SC administration of isoproterenol to rats for 14 days to induce cardiac hypertrophy. The study explored whether raw garlic and its compound, diallyl disulfide (DADS) could inhibit hypertrophy through H2S and/or mitochondrial biogenesis.
