What is Onyx Material?
The latest launch of Marforged very own material called the Onyx has been nothing less than spectacular. The Onyx Material is the most advanced material for high-performance 3D printing. It is a material which combines nylon together with chopped micro-carbon fibers to create rigid parts, coupled with dimensional stability and an effortless printing experience.
It has the robustness of nylon and the rigorousness of a fiber strengthened plastic. In addition to that, it has a high melting point of 145°C. This makes it a high-performance material and is engineered for engineers.
Printing with the Onyx material alone is made possible, due to the fact that it has a substantial dimensional stability. What makes this probable is that the added micro-carbon acts as a reinforcer fiber to make parts more stable. Therefore, this drives for an increase in the print success rate allowing the user to obtain their part, which they have designed, as it is.
In fact, post-processing the end use part is not needed or even negligible. Finished parts produces a matte black finish, the design can be taken off the build plate and be used immediately without any chemical or mechanical finishing. This definitely makes it a time efficient material.
Which Markforged Printers can print this material?
Onyx can be used on the full range of Markforged Printers as follows:
The material can be used as a standalone material, or it can be used with other embedded continuous carbon fiber, Kevlar, or fiberglass layers. These fibers are only available starting with Onyx Pro, Mark Two and the Mark X.
- Automotive (Heat Resistance)
- Aerospace (Stiffness to weight)
- Industrial Automation (Toughness)
- End Use Parts (Surface Finish)
All the Markforged Machines comes with a spool on Onyx. So you can start printing beautiful matte finished materials immediately. It truly is one of the most easy and hassle free material that one can 3D print with.
